the modification of landscape, global plate tectonics, and their interrelationships;
introduction to the more direct aspects of human interactions with the natural
physical environment. (3H,3C). I,II.

Introduction to basic geological structures, evolution of microfabrics, development
of faults, folds and foliations, stereographic analysis of geological structures,
thrust fault geometries, balancing of geological cross-sections, and introduction
to the concepts of stress and strain. Pre: 1004; (2H,3L,3C). I.
4404: ADVANCED STRUCTURAL GEOLOGY
Basic principles of rock behavior under applied, non-hydrostatic stress (experimental
and tectonic) and analysis of the geometrical patterns produced. May be taken
for graduate credit. Pre: 3404; (2H,3L,3C). I. Alternate years.

PASS/FAIL ONLY. Variable credit course.
Graduate Courses
5424: STRUCTURAL PETROLOGY
Examinations of the processes by which rocks deform due to tectonic stresses,
and recognition and interpretation of the micro structures that record these
processes. Pre 3505, 4704, or consent; (2H, 3L, 3C). II. Alternate years.
